Theatre Auditions & Scholarships
Any student who is interested in theatre
and has the qualifications for entrance to the University
of Central Oklahoma is welcome to become a theatre major.
However auditions are required for those seeking theatre scholarships
(look below under "Scholarships" for audition dates).
The program is very demanding, as is the profession. After
one or two semesters, it will be obvious to the student whether
or not he or she will be fulfilled working as a theatre professional
or educator, or working within some aspect of the entertainment
industry.
There
are individual conferences with each student in May, at which
the students progress is discussed with the theatre
faculty. At that time, recommendations are made in order to
help the student further develop. As a result of these conferences
and the individual mentoring which takes place throughout
the year, some students choose to pursue other courses of
study.
Additionally,
the faculty is developing a sophomore year interview/presentation
which will be used to evaluate a student's achievements and
potential to continue in the BFA program.
Students who wish to apply for a theatre scholarship awarded by the department, is invited to come to campus for an interview and/or audition with the department chair, Dr. Robert McGill. Auditions will consist of two contrasting monologues of any reasonable length. Tech Theatre/Design Interviews will be arranged by the Technical Theatre faculty. Tuition waivers, partial tuition waivers and cash scholarships are available. The amounts awarded each year are based on talent and need.
To schedule an audition/interview, for more information and to request scholarship forms, call the Department Administrative Secretary Sandy Adams at (405) 974-5511 or email at sadams16@ucok.edu.

Dance Auditions & Scholarships
Auditions for admittance into the UCO
Dance Program and for the UCO Kaleidoscope Dancers Company
are held every spring (click here for audition schedule). Students will participate in a ballet, modern and jazz series of classes. A one minute solo is required; please bring your music in CD form. In-state and out-of-state scholarships are available. Auditions will be held on the UCO Campus in the Health and Physical Education Building.
(Auditions for dance scholarships are
held the same day as admittance auditions.)
There are in-state and some out-of-state tuition waivers for UCO Dance Majors and UCO Kaleidoscope Dancers. There are full and partial scholarships available for in-state students. (Students must be an Oklahoma resident and enrolled in six hours to be eligible) For out-of-state students there are out-of-state scholarships which waiver a portion of the out of state fees. We have one of the most reasonable and affordable in-state tuition programs of any university in the region. Dance scholarships are awarded based on talent, financial need and academic scholarship and are awarded at the spring auditions. There are also cash scholarships that help with tuition and books: The Lorraine Remmel Watson Dance Scholarship that is awarded to an incoming freshman and a junior/senior dance major;. The Kaleidoscope Dancers Cash scholarship awarded to a female dance major; and the Warren Armstrong Dance Scholarship awarded to a male dance major.
For dance scholarships, you will need to bring a recent transcript and 3 letters of recommendation to the auditions (see Dance Audition information above). You will be taught everything at the audition. Be prepared to present a 1:00 minute solo if requested. The audition will consist of a warm-up at the ballet barre. Then students will be taught a ballet, jazz and modern combination. Bring appropriate shoes for each combination: ballet shoes (not pointe shoes), jazz shoes, and for modern there are no shoes worn. Dance attire consists of tights and leotards (solid colors and any color is acceptable).
