Gayle
Singer is an Assistant Professor of Art and teaches Ceramics at
the University of Central Oklahoma. Her interest in clay began 25
years ago as an undergraduate student. Over the past 15 years she
has taught and maintained a private studio out of her home. Her
work has been widely exhibited in national exhibitions and galleries
throughout the United States.
"My investigations continue to be inspired by the growth process
of forms found in nature. The animation of the energy, tension and
motion of these forms are compelling forces that I continually strive
to emulate. These are best translated by the way I choose to manipulate
and exaggerate the plasticity of the clay. My approach to the material
is directed yet responsive to its innate properties. Additionally,
the hand-material connection that clay provides in relation to the
use of the potters wheel engage my physically and allow me
to respond spontaneously. Functional forms are an integral part
of my current work that enables me to bring an element of surprise,
intimacy, and accessibility to each piece."
