Alyson Atchison attended the University of Central Oklahoma where she studied painting and serigraphy. As Dr. Bob Palmer’s painting assistant, she also received and extensive education in mural painting. Alyson graduated in May of 2000 with Bachelor’s in two-dimensional art. She continued to work with mural painting after graduation as Dr. Palmer’s graduate research assistant and received a Master’s in Education in December of 2002.

Alyson began working with the Arts Council of Oklahoma City in January of 2001 as the Director of the Community Arts Program, a program which coordinates arts education outreach projects for areas of the community who have little or no assess to the arts. At the Arts Council, she also helped coordinate projects such as the Festival of the Arts, Opening Night, and Wintertales, as well as other community arts events.

In the Spring of 2004, Alyson began teaching Serigraphy at the University of Central Oklahoma. Working with college students is a new opportunity that allows Alyson to revisit expand the foundation of her own creativity.

Her experience at the Arts Council, as well as working with art students gave Alyson the confidence to make studio art her full-time career in June of 2005. Her main focus is now to expand her production and exhibition of artwork. Currently, Alyson is practicing relief printmaking to add to her portfolio. Alyson is also a member and volunteer for the Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition (OVAC). Through her work with OVAC, Alyson was a founding committee member of Momentum, a visual and performing arts exhibit for artist under the age of 30 in Oklahoma and co-chairs the Artist Survival Kit, a series of workshops to offer career fundamentals for working artists.
